The Russian State Duma on 20 June adopted a resolution on the human rights situation of Russian citizens in Turkmenistan. The resolution was adopted by a vote of 411 in favor, far more than the 226 required for passage. The resolution attacks the unilateral actions of the Turkmen authorities to require that holders of Turkmen-Russian dual citizenship who wish to retain their Russian passports leave Turkmenistan by 22 June and calls on the Turkmen leadership to retract the deadline, stop harassing holders of dual citizenship, and drop the requirement that Russian citizens obtain exit visas to leave the country.By empty (6/19/2003 issue of the CACI Analyst)
Kazakhstan\'s Senate ratified an agreement on the demarcation of the country\'s border with Turkmenistan on 19 June. The border agreement was signed by the presidents of both countries in July 2001, and the Senate\'s ratification has been passed on for President Nazarbaev\'s signature. A working group of the Russian Federation\'s military delegation has recently paid a visit to Uzbekistan. They spent two days working with country\'s representatives on plans for future military and technical cooperation, Uzbek TV reported on 15 June.
