In an address to army reservists, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili called on August 10 for the formation of a 100,000-strong reserve force. Saakashvili, who has been spending his vacation living and training with reservists since August 5 at a camp near the central Georgian village of Osiauri, proposed that \"every Georgian citizen up to the age of 40 should feel obliged to spend even just two weeks training as a reservist for the defense of our country.\" He also vowed that \"Georgia should be ready to use all means of defense and to mobilize at least 100,000 people within several months through its reserve troops system in case of need.
