ETHNIC KAZAKHS WANT TO LEAVE UZBEKISTAN

Kazakhstan's ambassador in Tashkent, Umarzak Uzbekov said on 29 August that 3,000 families of ethnic Kazakhs living near the Aral Sea want to leave Uzbekistan and resettle in Kazakhstan, and that they are seeking financial help to do so. There are approximately 1.2 million ethnic Kazakhs in Uzbekistan at present, he said, and recently the desire to emigrate to Kazakhstan has "somewhat increased.
