Azeri President Aliyev visiting Nakhichevan prior to the meeting with Armenian President

The Azeri president Heidar Aliyev visited on August 11 Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic an (exclave in northwest of Azerbaijan) and have a number of official and non-official meetings. This visit was held three days prior to the meeting of the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan who will meet August 14 along the border of two states in Sadarak district of the republic of Nakhichevan to try to achieve a peaceful settlement to the Nagornyy Karabakh conflict. During the meeting with the population of exclave the Azeri president said "I do not want war, I want to resolve the Karabakh problem by peaceful means, through talks.

While speaking about the presidential elections in Azerbaijan in 2003 Heydar Aliyev expressed confidence in his victory saying: "I have held the post of the president of Azerbaijan for nine years, and God willing, will hold it for a long time."
