At the coming summit in Moscow the Presidents of the USA and Russia, George Bush and Vladimir Putin, plan to sign a new ABM Treaty which will show that both countries have left the heritage of the Cold War behind and open by this document a new era in their relations. This was stated on Monday in Washington by US President\'s adviser for national security Condoleezza Rice. She noted that the ABM Treaty consists of only three pages and provides for the reduction of the warheads which are in the service in Russia and in the United States to the levels of 1.

Hassan Rowhani, who is secretary of Iran\'s Supreme National Council, has informed Russian Ambassador to Tehran Aleksandr Maryasov that any bilateral or trilateral agreement concluded between Caspian littoral states on exploiting the sea\'s resources, including that signed on 13 May between Russia and Kazakhstan, is legally invalid. Rowhani further warned that any foreign interference or presence in the Caspian could jeopardize the stability of the region. The \"Tehran Times\" has similarly condemned the Russian-Kazakh agreement as \"unacceptable.

Protesters and riot police clashed in Kyrgyzstan\'s parliament square on Thursday as demonstrations against the government picked up momentum, prompting one lawmaker to warn that this Central Asian nation may be heading toward a civil war. Demonstrators who gathered in front of the parliament building in the capital Bishkek were kicked in the stomach and dragged away by their hands and feet, opposition activists said. More than 90 people were detained, including the head of the Kyrgyz Committee for Human Rights and many journalists, according to activists and human rights groups.

Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Tatul Markarian and his Azerbaijani counterpart Araz Azimov, together with the three co-chairmen of the OSCE Minsk Group, on 15 May ended three days of talks at Stirin, near Prague, on the Karabakh conflict, RFE/RL\'s Armenian Service reported. It was the first such meeting at deputy foreign minister level. An OSCE statement characterized the talks as \"useful,\" and said that the two deputy ministers will report to their respective presidents.
