KYRGYZ PRESIDENTIAL ADMINISTRATION HEAD SUES NEWSPAPER FOR $1 MILLION

Usen Sydykov, the head of Kyrgyz President Bakiev\'s administration, has filed a libel suit against Mairam Akaev, the wife of former Kyrgyz President Askar Akaev, and the newspapers \"Bely parokhod\" and \"Dlya vas.\" According to \"Bely parokhod,\" Sydykov charges that an article written by Akaeva and published in December 2005 by \"Bely parakhod\" and \"Dlya vas\" defamed him. Sydykov is asking for $1 million in damages.

In a comment published on the newspaper\'s website (http://www.parohod.kg), \"Bely parokhod\" editors said, \"The [Kyrgyz] authorities don\'t know what to do about the press, primarily the independent press.
