KYRGYZ AUTHORITIES DETAIN, THEN RELEASE, DAUGHTER OF FORMER PRESIDENT

A statement by the Kyrgyz National Security Service on April 24 announced the arrest of Bermet Akaeva, the elder daughter of former Kyrgyz President Askar Akaev. Akaeva was released after several hours of interrogation. National Security Service Deputy Chairman Elmurza Satybaldiev said officers detained Akaeva on the basis of a warrant issued by the Prosecutor-General\'s Office seeking to compel her to testify in the pending criminal case of her husband, Adil Toigonbaev, and her brother, Aidar Akaev, who face charges of corruption and abuse of power.Visit also
