In a television interview with the Arabic-language network Al-Jazeera, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev threatened on October 17 to \"fight\" the politically active Armenian diaspora and announced a new state campaign to counter its influence and power. Aliyev explained that Azerbaijan plans to open new embassies and consulates as part of a new diplomatic effort aimed at confronting worldwide ethnic Armenian groups.
