Kamal Kharrazi left Dushanbe prematurely after a 3 1/2 hour meeting and dinner with Rakhmonov on 7 September, saying that unspecified "important matters" required his presence in Tehran. Kharrazi was to have met on 8 September with his Tajik counterpart Talbak Nazarov and to have taken part in the independence day celebrations the following day.
