UN TO RESUME HUMANITARIAN PROGRAM IN CHECHNYA

The United Nations will resume its humanitarian operations in Chechnya on 9 September, a spokesman for the UN's Moscow office told Interfax. The program was suspended six weeks ago following the abduction in Chechnya of UNICEF employee Nina Davydovich. Meanwhile, the humanitarian group Doctors Without Borders announced on 10 September that it will resume operations in Ingushetia.
The United Nations will resume its humanitarian operations in Chechnya on 9 September, a spokesman for the UN's Moscow office told Interfax. The program was suspended six weeks ago following the abduction in Chechnya of UNICEF employee Nina Davydovich. Meanwhile, the humanitarian group Doctors Without Borders announced on 10 September that it will resume operations in Ingushetia. The group suspended its work on 14 August after the head of its office in Daghestan, Dutch national Arjan Erkel, was kidnapped. Erkel's whereabouts remain unknown, and Doctors Without Borders repeated its call for his immediate release. (RFE/RL)
