GEORGIAN PARLIAMENT SUPPORTS PEACE ENFORCEMENT IN ABKHAZIA

The parliamentary special session on July 16 adopted a decree over Abkhazia with 147 votes to1. The decree urges the President and the executive authority to apply to the UN Security Council to enforce Chapter 7 of the UN Charter in Abkhazia, to take steps towards changing of peacekeeping operations’ mandate and prepare particular proposals over internationalization of peacekeeping operations in the conflict zone of Abkhazia. The Parliament of Georgia still adheres to the previously adopted parliamentary decrees regarding the withdrawal of Russian peacekeeping troops deployed in the conflict zone under the CIS auspices, and expresses serious concern over non-fulfillment of these decrees by the executive authority.Visit also
