Isa Qambar, Musavat party chairman and defeated presidential challenger, appealed on 8 December to participants to end the hunger strike they began on 1 December. The hunger strikers are demanding the release of some 100 opposition activists detained following clashes between police and opposition supporters in the wake of the disputed 15 October presidential ballot.
